Social Media, Self-promotion, and Writing on Medium

I recently set a goal for myself to publish three stories in three separate categories on Medium each day. In order for each of thee stories to be seen and read, I need to practice more self-promotion. I need to utilize social media. This means my daily writing routine needs an overhaul.

I was doing well starting my day with free writing, going wherever the mood took me. I would always find myself writing a story which I would later publish to Medium. Sometimes a personal essay, sometimes a poem. I didn’t have a plan. I just bumbled my way around. Which was fine for a beginner.

I now have more specific writing goals. I’ve got a book in the works. I have a tiny following on Medium which I would like to grow. I have a website and a blog which need attention and views. My simple schedule of free write, draft and publish to medium in the morning, hone my craft in the afternoon, and read in the evening isn’t going to cut it. I still do each of those things, but I’ve had to get more specific. I’ve also had to begin self-promoting. I’ve begun utilizing social media to get my stories out there and to hopefully attract some fans.

Social media time has taken a chunk of my mornings. Twitter is easiest for me, because I don’t really…
