What I Want You to Know

I could tell you I’m broken but I’m not.

I could tell you about

my childhood trauma,

abuse, and neglect.

I could tell you about

my teen pregnancies,

abortions and regret.

I could tell you I’m broken but I’m not.

What I want you to know

is who I am today.

I could tell you about

alcohol, drugs,

and street life.

I could tell you about

punk scene, heroin,

and a needle as my wife.

I could tell you I’m broken but I’m not.

What I want you to know

is I’m here to stay.

I could tell you about

cleanliness, sobriety,

and my recovery.

I could tell you about

my wants, my needs,

I just want you to love me.

I could tell you I’m broken but I’m not.

What I want you to know
