Why Not Understanding Brexit and Other Political Hot Topics is Okay With Me.

My journey through political (re)discovery.

It is the end of 2019 and I don’t understand Brexit.

Political Activism

I used to consider myself a politically savvy person. I was fairly well informed. I identified myself as an activist.

Until 2016. 2016 ruined everything!

After the primaries in 2016 I formed a local non-partisan group in response to the republican primary nomination. We weren’t sure, at first, what our mission statement was beyond “Stop the madness!”

Discussion

We met once a week and discussed action we could take to educate, inform, reform, and survive the looming 45th presidency. We discussed voter registration and education, political reform, and specific political platforms. We invited sitting and running senators and representatives to hold town hall meetings where we live (none, regardless of party, took us up on it — our voter base is too small, we are too rural, we don’t have fat enough wallets) We discussed future voters and how to get children involved in the political process.
